Headline News:

Wall Street is set for a positive open on Thursday after the U.S and Iran pulled back on military action, and on upbeat news about the U.S.-China Trade deal. The Phase 1 trade deal is set to be signed in Washington next week and should end the trade war between the two countries. Investors will also be awaiting Friday’s jobs report for more evidence of a strong economy in the United States.

Markets:

The S&P 500 traded at a new all-time high of 3267.07 but finished the day at 3253.05. The move, once again, came on average volume, so the breakout is suspect until a follow-through day with better than average volume is posted. The RSI index moved higher to support the up move and closed at 67.58. We continue to believe the next step will be potentially higher, and Wednesday’s trading action should be considered constructive trading action for the S&P 500.

We are currently long-term bullish and short-term bullish.

The most closely watched of all economic indicators, the employment situation is a set of monthly labor market indicators based on two separate reports: the establishment survey which tracks 650,000 worksites and offers the nonfarm payroll and average hourly earnings headlines and the household survey which interviews 60,000 households and generates the unemployment rate.

Nonfarm payrolls track the number of part-time and full-time employees in both business and government. Average hourly earnings track employee pay while the average workweek, also part of the establishment survey, tracks the number of hours worked. The report’s private payroll measure excludes government workers.

The unemployment rate measures the number of unemployed as a percentage of the labor force. In order to be counted as unemployed, one must be actively looking for work. Other commonly known data from the household survey include the labor supply and discouraged work
