Dawgs vs. Vols

The Dawgs had another win, another sloppy performance, and sadly, it feels like a loss for some in the Dawgnation. Tennessee has players on scholarship too, and they wanted to win an SEC game for the first time in a long time. That clearly showed in how the Vols played on Saturday for sure. Also, we just beat a dreaded rival, The Rocky Top Singers, and moved to 5-0 on the season! We have a lot to be happy about right now! We are ranked number two in the nation while we still have room to improve. These are fun times!

The first touchdown of the game was a strange one that came off a Fromm fumble. Jake held the ball too long and got stripped by a very good effort by the Vols offensive line. However, the ball bounced right into Issac Nauta’s hands, and he rumbled for a 40-yard touchdown. Issac missed his block on the play but made up for it with a heads-up play and a strong run. At this point I thought, we would go on and blow the Vols off the field. I thought they would get dejected and start to feel down about another big play going against them once again. Coach Pruitt and his staff kept the Vols steady and focused, and they tried to make a game of it between the hedges.

Although Jake Fromm had two bad overthrows that would have been touchdowns he played another good game. His ability to makes play changes at the line of scrimmage and be a leader was on display all day. I need to give props to the Bulldawgs center Lamont Gaillard for also have another good game. His play has helped Jake and the offensive line all season long, and it goes unseen by most of the UGA fans. Lamont has a good chance of first team All-SEC, All American, and  a high NFL draft pick. Please try to keep an eye on how this guy goes about his business on Saturday’s. These are the type of players you see playing all over the NFL after stellar yet under the radar careers at UGA.

My man D’Andre Swift! It is safe to say that he is no longer hurt and that he was a big contributor to the win with his electric touchdown runs. He can plant one leg and then go the opposite direction better than anyone I have seen since Barry Sanders. If he can stay healthy, I think he will put up some big numbers and be critical to our success this year. Now, Brian Herrin has been running with anger and determination all season, and against Tennessee, he had his best game. He can move a pile when we need the short yardage for a first down. He can hit the hole and be off to the races before the second level players can even react. I am happy to see this guy have success because he could have moved on like a lot of young players seem to do now.

I was happy to see us drive the ball the length of the field in the fourth quarter to close out the game for good. I felt we should have been doing that all day because the Vols defense was getting tired very early in the game. I like to keep team guessing, but we have four quality running backs and a huge offensive line to work with. Run the ball until they stop us! We now have another weapon in the legs of Justin Fields. His two rushing touchdowns must have sent chills down the spine of our future opponents. The Dawgs will be tough to defend if we continue, we better, use Justin as a dual threat.

Next up is Vanderbilt with their anchor down helmets and rallying cry. Yes, they have beat us in the past, but we will not mess around with this team this year. No looking ahead to LSU either. We need to continue to find our chemistry, win this game, have no injuries, and move to 6-0. The main thing about Vandy is coach Dooley always being worried about their punter when I was a Kid. “Vanderbilt has a good punter.” “They are going to punt us deep!” We will have a long way to go after they punt.” I think we will be fine on Saturday even if there is a good punter on Vanderbilt’s team.  Dawgs win big!
